36 Fun Easter Days Out For Kids [2023 Edition]

The Easter holidays are fast approaching and so this is the time to start planning those all-important days out with the kids.

If you’re looking for Easter egg hunts then you’re definitely in luck as pretty much every attraction worth its salt has got some sort of chocolatey quest planned. A few have got some funky themes to enjoy as well — whether it’s Alice in Wonderland themes, dragon eggs, or an appearance from Thomas The Tank Engine…

And, of course, the Easter holidays wouldn’t be just right without a trip to a farm park to meet some of the new baby animals — this is lambing season, after all!

Superworm at Kew

Calling all Julia Donaldson fans! Head on over to Kew Gardens for their latest seasonal kids’ trail — Superworm.

The price for the trail is included in your entry ticket to Kew and takes you through many of the plant and animal kingdoms on display here. You’ll see all your favourite characters, find out more about the importance of soil and learn all about the different creatures of Superworm.

15 Years of Thomas Land at Drayton Manor

April 2023 is dedicated to ’15 Years of Thomas Land’ at Drayton Manor, celebrating the anniversary of their brilliant Thomas Land. This is a must-visit for any Thomas & Friends fans!

Thomas Land transports you to the Island of Sodor and is home to 25 different rides and attractions that’s perfectly suited to younger kids. During April, you can also expect a special Thomas & Friends Easter hunt, street entertainment and party games all day, as well as birthday party balcony shows.

Speaking of Thomas The Tank Engine, the Easter weekend also sees Buckinghamshire Railway Centre play host to a Day Out With Thomas.

This includes riding on a full-size steam engine behind Thomas and Percy, completing the Thomas Hunt, meeting Sir Topham Hatt, Rusty and Dusty, as well as enjoying the usual attractions of the Railway Centre — the miniature steam railway, tea cup rides and more.

Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt at Hampton Court Palace

Is there any chocolate tastier than Lindt chocolate?! Well, you can find out if you head on over to Hampton Court Palace this Easter for their incredible Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt.

This is a self-led trail, around 90 minutes total, best suited for kids aged between 3 and 12. You’ll explore the 60 acres of gardens to seek out the various gold bunny statues hidden around, while matching up the names of the historic characters on the trail to the red ribbon on each bunny. There are plenty of fascinating stories to engage with at each bunny too. Once you’ve completed the trail, you can reward yourself with a delicious Lindt gold bunny reward!

Many National Trust properties are hosting various Easter activities over the school holidays this year — whether it’s trails, egg and spoon races, crafts and puppetry, dressing up as baby animals, and many more besides.

Trails cost £3 (in addition to your entrance fee or membership) and you’ll be rewarded with a chocolate egg at the end.

York Food & Drink Festival

The inimitable York Food and Drink Festival has some incredible Easter activities and events on this year that little kids and big kids are sure to love.

There’s the Easter Egg-stravaganza — supposedly York’s biggest ever Easter Egg hunt — the chocolate festival market, a chocolate festival taste trail and lots of individual workshops and activities for kids. Some of these include making your own chocolate Easter bunny or Easter egg; chocolate lollipop making; and painting your own Easter Egg. Delicious!

Zoonormous Egg Hunt at London Zoo

London Zoo always put on a good show over the school holidays and this Easter is no different thanks to their ‘Zoonormous’ Egg Hunt. But these eggs aren’t any normal eggs — you’ll be searching for a whole host of different animal eggs during the hunt, of all sizes and colours. And each egg holds a clue to help you find the location of a secret golden egg…

The trail isn’t the only thing on offer this Easter either — expect craft activities and lots of opportunities to get up close and personal with many of the animal residents at the zoo while you’re here.

Easter Egg Trail at Babbacombe Model Village

If you’re in Devon during the Easter holidays, consider a visit to the brilliant Babbacombe Model Village in Torquay which is playing host to a colourful Easter Egg Trail this year. It’s suitable for kids aged 3 and over. They’ve also got a 9-hole crazy golf course for all the family to enjoy as well.

Aside from the Easter Egg trail, they’ve also just unveiled their brand new bug trail which looks to be a lot of fun and available all year.

Easter Fun with Pip and Posy at Whipsnade Zoo

Whipsnade Zoo is hosting a family-friendly self-guided trail with Pip and Posy to celebrate Easter this year. There are two looped trails available, both of which focus on discovering more about some of the animals at home in Whipsnade.

Certain dates will see meet and greet sessions with Pip and Posy although you’ll have to book these in advance.

Lambing

The Easter holidays usually coincides with lambing season in the UK, and this year is no exception.

You can see the newborn lambs — and even them being born, if you time it right — at a number of farms across the UK over April. We’ve picked out some of our favourite farms here — and they’ve all got many other Easter-themed activities on as well.

Easter Family Fun at Hever Castle

Hever Castle always put on a good show during the school holidays and this Easter is no exception. First up is their Easter Quest where kids are invited to help the Easter Bunny find their sweet treats and solve a special Easter Egg Hunt puzzle around the grounds, as well as activities like creating and decorating your own Easter Egg.

Festivities ramp up over the Easter weekend with an egg and spoon race, egg rolling competition and face painting.

Peter Rabbit Easter Adventure in Covent Garden

Covent Garden plays host to a unique Peter Rabbit immersive experience this Easter where you’ll need to team up with Beatrix Potter, Peter and his friends on a quest to save Jemima Puddle-Duck.

This is an interactive experience featuring puppetry and live theatre that lasts for around 50 minutes. It’s suitable for kids of all ages although Mr MacGregor’s obstacle course is for those aged between 4 and 9. There’s also an indoor activity area to explore, with plenty of arts and crafts to enjoy, as well as an Easter Adventure Shop.

WWT Easter Duck Detectives

When you visit a WWT Wetland Centre during the Easter holidays, you’ll be able to take part in ‘Duck Detectives’, where you’ll need to investigate the mystery of the missing duck by following clues and quacking the case…

There’s lots more to see and do at the wetland centres besides, including Art Hub, the ‘Whose Poo’ theatre show, pond dipping, canoe safari and more.

The Passion of Jesus in Trafalgar Square

For something a little different (although much closer to the origins of Easter!), consider attending the Passion of Jesus, which is performed annually on Good Friday in London’s Trafalgar Square.

100 actors recreate the final days of Jesus’ earthly life in this 90-minute, open-air performance. Although everyone is welcome, you should note that they do recreate the crucifixion so it’s worth discussing with your kids beforehand. It does get very busy although visibility is usually good thanks to the numerous large screens dotted around.

Easter Egg Trail at Brodick Castle

Head on over to Brodick Castle on the Isle of Arran for a fun Easter Egg trail over the long weekend. You can buy the trail leaflet on the day to guarantee a chocolate treat at the end.

Easter Sunday is a particularly jam-packed day which offers not only the trail but also activities like Easter Egg decoration, wacky races, Easter bonnet parade, and a Duck Derby.

Alice in Wonderland Easter Eggstravaganza at Longleat

Fans of Alice in Wonderland will absolutely revel in this Easter event at Longleat Safari Park this year — expect mini golf, an un-birthday party with the Mad Hatter, origami rose making, and of course Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

There’s also an Easter Egg hunt to embark upon around the expansive grounds, and plenty of clues for you to solve the Easter puzzle — expect a special treat if you do!

Alice in Wonderland Easter Egg Hunt at Merchant Square

Speaking of Alice in Wonderland, Merchant Square in Paddington is getting in on the act too with their themed Easter Egg Hunt this year. It’s completely free but it’s for one day only — the 5th of April — so make sure you save the date.

Your mission is to follow Alice and chase the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole, finding each piece of a puzzle for an Easter surprise. Once you’ve completed the hunt, there’s lots of other themed activities and competitions to enjoy — as well as meeting some of your favourite characters.

Great Missenden Food Festival

The Great Missenden Food Festival is a much-loved event over the long Easter weekend that has more than enough to entertain the whole family.

There are workshops from esteemed chefs, tastings, demonstrations and cuisine both local and from further afield. Kids will love the children’s cookery school, Easter Egg hunt, story telling and slime workshops on offer.

Easter Eggstravaganza at Traquair House

If you find yourself in the Scottish Borders on Easter Sunday, then you should check out the Easter Eggstravaganza at Traquair House.

There are a whopping 5,000 mini eggs to be found in the Traquair Maze — and you’ll have your work cut out for you as this is the largest hedge maze in Scotland. There’s also a seperate ‘Egg Scramble’ for the under 5s in the walled garden.

You’ll also be able to enjoy various workshops and creative activities throughout the day.

The Great Railway Easter Hunt

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is pulling out all the stops this Easter with their Great Railway Easter Hunt — you’ll need to search around the entire attraction for the giant eggs and clues. Make sure you complete it for a chocolatey prize!

There will also be twice daily falconry displays, and springtime train rides through the countryside.

If you visit on Easter Sunday, make sure your little ones bring their bonnets for the Easter bonnet parade and competition.

Easter 2023 with English Heritage

26 English Heritage sites — including Stonehenge! — across the UK are playing host to ‘Easter Adventure Quests’ during the school holidays. These quests will see you exploring the sites, hunting for clues, completing challenges and enjoying traditional Easter games. There’s a certificate and an chocolate treat in it for you…

As well as that, 8 sites will have performers and storytellers in attendance from 7th to 10th April, as well as traditional games, races and other activities.

Easter Adventures at Waddesdon

Head on over to Waddesdon Manor near Aylesbury for their epic Easter Adventures Trail. Please note it will be closed on 3rd and 4th of April.

You’ll be given a trail sheet on arrival, which will take you all around the beautiful grounds and allow you to enjoy plenty of games and creative activities. A chocolate egg is your prize! Face painting will also be available.

Easter at Dalkeith Country Park

There’s lots of fun to be had this Easter at Dalkeith Country Park with something on offer for all the family.

Easter Eggstravaganza at Blenheim Palace

Head on over to Blenheim Palace this Easter weekend for some incredible seasonal fun.

They’re pulling out all the stops in the Walled Garden, with activities and workshops like bungee trampolines, circus skills, balloon modelling, fairground rides, mini golf, archery, Easter Bunny appearances and more. The Easter Egg Hunt around the grounds is the main event, with a delicious chocolate reward at the end.

For any budding chocoholics in your family, consider booking them into a Hotel Chocolat workshop — it promises to be fun, educational and tasty!

CountryTastic at Three Counties Showground

CountryTastic is one of the UK’s most loved country shows, and there’s plenty to do to keep everyone entertained — even the really little ones! It’s actually aimed at under 11s so this is definitely a good choice for primary age kids.

Expect plenty of farmyard fun, meeting the animals, an Ask the Farmer event, hands-on cookery sessions, craft activities, bushcraft skills, den building and plenty of sports.

RHS Easter Egg Hunts

The 5 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) gardens are celebrating the Easter holidays in a big way this year — each garden is hosting a larger than life egg hunt (giant eggs designed by local youngsters) with a chocolate treat for all who take part.

Each garden has something a little bit special and unique happening alongside the egg hunt — whether it’s planting, arts and crafts, baby sensory play, outdoor family theatre, interactive storytelling, forest school or a circus skills workshop.

Family Easter Quest at Leeds Castle

For an Easter activity that all the family will enjoy, head down to Leeds Castle for their Family Easter Quest, where you’ll need to navigate the massive grounds and hunt for your favourite treats among the special spring displays. As well as the trail, nature lovers will enjoy walking through the daffodils and tulips on display in the garden and parklands, and there’ll also be falconry displays to enjoy too.

Easter at Hobbledown

Hobbledown is one of our favourite kids days out in the UK regardless of the time of year, but Easter is definitely a special time to visit.

While every other attraction has you hunting for normal eggs, Hobbledown visitors are hunting… DRAGON eggs! There are 100 eggs belonging to the dragon Rumpletump that need finding, as well as one special Golden Egg — you’re in for a special prize if you manage to find it.

Other activities to enjoy include archery, animal interactions, traditional games and storytimes, falconry displays and a badge making station.

Egg-straordinary Dragon Trail at Painshill

It turns out Hobbledown isn’t the only place to hunt for dragon eggs this Easter — the people at Painshill are getting in on the action too! You’ll need to find both the dragons and their eggs in this family statue trail that’s perfect for little legs and pushchairs.

Also on offer is an amazing Easter dragon themed afternoon tea, parent and child forest school and a wild Easter camp.

The Great Gunnersbury Easter Celebration

If you’re in London over the Easter holidays, you could definitely do worse than a trip to the Gunnersbury Park Museum for their amazing Easter celebration this year.

Suitable for ages 5+, this is an immersive experience which will see your kids transported back to Victorian times with Lizzie the kitchen maid, who’ll show you how chocolate use to be enjoyed back in the ‘olden days’! There’ll also be the chance to make some flower decorations, play some traditional games and, of course, enjoy a choctastic egg hunt in the grounds of Gunnersbury park.
